As we celebrate the closing of our Fall Ango 2009, today Roshi offers words of encouragement calling us to appreciate our oneness and uniqueness. Many blessings to all from Fr. Kennedy Roshi and the Sangha at Morning Star Zendo.
Roshi’s comment: “This Christmas season is not one simply of sentimentality, but of appreciating the unity we have with one another… a pledge as the new year begins, that we will continue to reach out to one another, as we reach out to ourselves with efficacious love and service.”
Today’s reading is from Luke 1 referencing the birth of John the Baptist.
Roshi’s comment: “What will we become?… The mystery of the human life is that we are not puppets.”
Today’s reading is from Luke 1 – “The Canticle of Mary”
Roshi’s comment: “This canticle originally was a Jewish-Christian hymn… from the Buddhist point of view I think it is a beautiful expression of emptiness.”
The reading for today is from Luke 1 – “Blessed are you who have believed the things that God has promised for His people.”
Today’s reading is from Matthew 1 – “Jesus was born of a virgin”
Roshi’s comment: “The virgin is a symbol that a woman gets her dignity, not from her husband or her son, but from herself.”
Today’s reading is from Matthew 1 – “The Lineage of Jesus”
Roshi’s comment: “So when we turn to one another, we never turn away from God.”
